One such example is Mama Oliech's Vegetables, a humble initiative started by a mother of six in 2014. With an initial investment of KES 50,000 (approximately $460), she began farming tomatoes and onions in her backyard. Today, her enterprise employs over 30 people, boasts a fleet of delivery vehicles, and supplies vegetables to major supermarkets across Nairobi.
Another success story is Jikolet, an online food ordering platform that was born out of necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Founder, Michael Kimani, recognized the need for a digital solution to support Kenya's eateries, many of which were struggling to survive due to lockdown restrictions. In just over two years, Jikolet has partnered with over 600 restaurants and processed transactions worth KES 2 billion (approximately $18 million).
